Tulsa boasts a wide variety of residential architecture from the late 1800s through today. From mid century modern, craftsman bungalows and colonial revival to contemporary mansions, there is an abundance of interesting homes throughout the city. The goal of TFA’s residential-focused program, Distinctive Dwellings, is to give those who love architecture an opportunity to see behind the doors of Tulsa’s most distinctive residences through self-guided exploration. Each guest will received a brochure with historic information about the property and have the opportunity to explore the home at their own pace.
This Distinctive Dwellings open house features THE DURAN MANSION.
Built in 1932 by Abraham and Hester Mae Duran, this gothic revival has been lovingly preserved by its present stewards, the Croff family. Abraham Duran (1883-1961) was born in Indiana. Shortly after the turn of the century, Abe Duran moved to Houston to work for New York Life Insurance Company. In 1907, he formed a partnership with A.L. Farmer and Farmer & Duran formed their insurance company in Tulsa. In 1917, they launched a real estate development company and were partners until their deaths in 1961. Farmer & Duran's real estate ventures helped shape many of Tulsa's neighborhoods, including Forest Hills, Terrace Hills, Woodward Park, Sunset Terrace, Wildwood, Brookside, and Riverside subdivisions.
Join us for a rare opportunity to view the interior of this gothic revival home designed by architect Frederick Alexander Duggan. Duggan practiced architecture in Tulsa from 1916 to 1955. During that time, he designed the Immanuel Baptist Church, Tulsa Business College, and many residential properties.
